By 2050, 70 per cent of the world’s population will be living in urban areas and the number of slum dwellers will increase to 3 billion. Such rapid pace of urbanisation threatens to put unprecedented pressure on urban infrastructure, making it prone to disease outbreaks and limit service provision capacities.
SDG 11 intends to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable by 2030, leaving no one behind. Urban areas are home to diverse communities and groups including indigenous people, refugees and migrants, which add immense value and vibrance to cities. This day-long event, Inclusive Cities: Last Mile Delivery in Slums and Informal Settlements, co-curated by UN-Habitat, brings together eminent experts from across the world to draw attention to inclusive solutions for building safe, resilient and sustainable settlements.
