Washington Fajardo

Mr. Washington Fajardo is the City Planning Commissioner of Rio de Janeiro and President of Pereira Passos Institute for Urbanism. He has also served as President of the Rio World Heritage Institute and the Mayor’s Special Advisor for Urban Issues. In these roles, Fajardo created policies and finance solutions to preserve heritage, regenerate buildings and places, and improve public services in Rio de Janeiro. The Loeb Fellowship selected him for the Class of 2019 at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. Currently, Fajardo is responsible for preparing a new master plan for Rio de Janeiro and is concluding an urban recovery plan for Rio's downtown which was hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Fajardo is also responsible for the Revivify Plan, aiming for a bold housing stimulus to the city's downtown.
