Harnessing Human Activity as a "Force of Nature"
We belong to a time where we have altered the Earth through our human activity, a new era referred to as the Anthropocene. With this ‘force of nature’ that we find ourselves possessing, we dictate what grows and lives where. While many of these activities have set out to make the world better, they also come with consequences that are compromising that very future we worked so hard to build. Change in our climate and earth systems is taking place faster than our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, limit global temperature rise and their impacts. How do we instead harness human activity to intentionally create a long-lasting positive change?
This event will spotlight how technology can help us maintain or improve our quality of life in a warming world, how our engineering skills help reverse climate change or give us ways to adapt among other key topics.
