Sadu Flag Exhibition
Follow the threads of a rich Bedouin tradition
- Location
The Bedouin art of sadu weaving is part of the fabric of Emirati life, passed down from mother to daughter across centuries. At Expo 2020’s Sadu Exhibition, you will embark on a multi-generational journey into the soul of this vital craft, exploring everything from sheep-shearing to looming to Bedouin social life. Sadu is about connection – not just binding one thread to another, but uniting communities through the practice of a beautiful, practical art. The exhibition takes you through the story of five women collaborating on a special crowning piece: an eight-metre-by-six-metre UAE flag, which you will see in all its exquisite detail.

Representinga vital craft
The exterior of the Sadu Exhibition resembles a Bedouin tent formed from a series of large nets or webs. The abstract structure is crafted from off-white rope and threads that represent the strings used to weave sadu.
