An exciting new act in Côte d’Ivoire’s story is underway: a wave of economic growth dubbed “the second Ivorian miracle”. For a show this exciting, who wouldn’t want to go behind the scenes? The Côte d’Ivoire Pavilion at Expo 2020 lets you do just that, welcoming you to an imaginative “movie set” as the West African nation films its emergence onto the global stage.

On entering the pavilion, you’ll be given an exclusive VIP pass to its three “sets” that explore Côte d’Ivoire’s cocoa production, burgeoning fashion industry, start-up culture and more. Art and graphics inspired by the region’s tribes lend the pavilion an unmistakable authenticity, while movie-making props and film strips complete the cinematic feel.

The energetic Iraq Pavilion takes the undulating form of a traditional al saliya fishing net, symbolic of wealth, wisdom and goodness in Mesopotamian culture. Step underneath the vast canopy to get caught up in a range of exciting exhibits sharing the determination and vision of this Middle Eastern nation’s newest generation of leaders, makers and artists. Immerse yourself in millennia of rich history and heritage, then meet face-to-face with proud Iraqi business owners and innovators.

A broad canopy of diamond-patterned white metal is shaped to look like a net cast from a boat into the water. The canopy forms a wavy shell that shades open air exhibits below. Each diamond is filled with yellow, orange or red panels, creating a gradient of warm hues. Once underneath the net, a wide path lined with media panels details the history and future of Iraq, ending at a large shaded stage area framed by palm trees.

Italy’s voyage to Expo 2020 began long before opening day, when three custom-crafted boats set sail from Venice, Genoa and Naples. Nearly 10,000 kilometres later, the vessels arrived in Dubai and were hoisted up on steel pillars to form the roof of the Italy Pavilion, a striking showcase of culture, science and the nautical arts.

Inside the pavilion, beyond a dramatic veil of LED strands, stylish exhibits await. See a five-metre-tall 3D-printed replica of Michelangelo’s legendary David statue, learn about algae at a cluster of naturally multicoloured pools or gaze up and contemplate the fanciful hanging gardens embedded in the boats’ hulls.

The Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020 is a dramatic, open structure reminiscent of a giant carnival tent, with a swooping canopy and a layer of 20-metre-tall white strands surrounding its interior like a veil. A set of high steel pillars support its imaginative roof, which is formed from the hulls of three boats.

Water is at the heart of this rugged Central Asian nation, known for its snow-capped mountains, turquoise blue glacier-fed lake and steaming hot mineral springs. The Tajikistan Pavilion celebrates the many roles that water plays in the country, leading visitors through its natural wonders, ambitious hydroelectric plants, and bottled mineral water operations. Sit on an elaborate, hand-carved tapchan, where Tajikistani traditionally gather to discuss family matters, and learn how this nation strives to live in harmony with nature while innovating for the benefit of future generations.
